Most Wanted Woman? The Trial of Aafia Siddiqui
Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani neuroscientist, has been described alternately as one of the most wanted women connected to al-Qaeda and as an innocent victim of the US-led regime of “enforced disappearances.” After ten years in the US, she vanished from her hometown of Karachi, only to be arrested in Afghanistan in 2008. Now she’s on trial in New York City for allegedly trying to shoot Americans while she was being detained. We’ll get a report from her trial. With Tina Foster of the International Justice Network.

Angel Island at 100
Everyone knows Ellis Island. But California’s Angel Island was the Ellis Island of the West, a major entry point for immigrants coming from Asia in the first half of the 20th century. More than half a million entered the US via the island—but many thousands were also detained on the island and deported from there. We’ll hear about Angel Island on its 100th anniversary—and the lessons we might learn from its history. With Judy Yung, professor emeritus at UC Santa Cruz and co-author of the forthcoming book, Angel Island: Immigrant Gateway to America.
