Sanctions Spark Health Crisis in Iran

As U.S. and E.U. sanctions tighten around Iran, we'll explore the impact of these sanctions on access to essential medicines and medical equipment for ordinary Iranians. Protests Target U.S. Militarism in the Philippines

Earlier this month, a U.S. naval vessel ran aground off the coast of the Philippines, opening a 100-foot long gash in a pristine coral reef designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. While the US has apologized for the incident, blaming an inaccurate navigational map, detractors say the ship shouldn't have been there in the first place. As the Obama administration pursues its self-described "pivot to Asia," critics fear this kind of militarism will only increase, threatening not just marine sanctuaries, but the sovereignty of countries in the region. APF's Hyun Lee attended a rally in Manila last week and filed a report.

New Arts and Culture Magazine from the Iranian Diaspora

B|ta'arof is a recently-launched arts and culture print magazine featuring a variety of work from the global Iranian diaspora. From classic images of ads from the 1970's to contemporary portraits of bachelors in Tehran, B|ta'arof magazine offers a mix of artistic mediums with a colorful and fresh presentation. APF sat down with co-editor G.S. Nikpour for a rolling conversation exploring themes of identity, nostalgia, cultural production, music, and politics.
