Sultana's Dream: SAWCC 10th Anniversary Exhibition
Sultana's Dream is currently on exhibit at Exit Art Gallery in Chelsea, a collection celebrating ten years of the NYC-based South Asian Women's Creative Collective. We will listen to excerpts from three different pieces: *Lotah Stories* by SA'DIA REHMAN involves individual stories (many from SAWCC members) about using water and a lotah instead of toilet paper. *Interview with a Reluctant Veteran*, is a short documentary that features a surprisingly frank interview with ANURADHA BHAGWATI, a former Captain in the US Marine Corps from 1994 to 2004. *Three Muses*, is an experimental musical and digital video collaboration by JAISHRI ABICHANDANI featuring vocals from SAMITA SINHA from India, TENZIN SHERPA from Nepal and BIJLI from Pakistan

Turban Pat Downs by the TSA
This past Thursday, the New-York-based Sikh Coalition started receiving reports from community members that the Transportation Security Administration is subjecting turban-wearing Sikhs to mandatory pat-downs of their turbans at airports nationwide. This policy presents a significant shift from a turban-screening policy put into place in 2001 with consultation from Sikh community groups. Although the TSA has not officially confirmed the nature of the current policy change, the TSA has confirmed that their has been a policy change, and individuals working for the TSA have told Sikhs subjected to these secondary screenings that they have been instructed to inspect all headgear of individuals passing through security at the airports. We will talk to *NEHA SINGH* of the Sikh Coalition about these developing events, and what this airport policy change might mean for the Sikh and Muslim communities.

On Sunday, immigration agents in Los Angeles arrested and deported Elvira Arellano, a Mexican woman, who, by taking refuge in a Chicago church to defy a deportation order, inspired the new movement. We will talk to Rev. Donna Schaper of the Judson Memorial Church about how Arellano’s arrest may affected the local Sanctuary Movement.
